Spending some time in #opensuse-testing and working through the features list on the wiki.

We’ve got a few people in channel and getting a few tests knocked out. We can always use more testers, of course. We’ll have people in channel until 13:00 Eastern (19:00 CET).

Since we’re testing on a workday, I know that makes it a bit difficult for some people to join in — but testers are always welcome, and there are usually people around on #opensuse-factory.

Also, suggestions for improving our testing procedures are always welcome. Right now, I don’t think we have quite as much directed and organized testing as would be optimal. I know we have a lot of people from the community who report bugs as found, but we could probably do with additional directed testing.

Downloading beta 3 now… ready for testing!

In case you haven’t noticed, beta 3 is out and ready for download and testing. I can’t wait to get my hands on the new release, I think it’s going to be a lot of fun.

Just a quick reminder — for those of you who’d like to test openSUSE, but aren’t sure where to begin — we have a page with all the features specific to openSUSE 11.1 (that is, new to openSUSE, not features specific to projects like GNOME, KDE, etc.) here put together by Holger Sickenberg (holgi).

As the 11.1 release gets closer, it’s time to put on the crash helmets and start banging on the betas. I know there’s been a lot of interest in the 11.1 beta 3 release, so I hope that corresponds to lots of testing and reporting of issues and also — on holgi’s page — reports of whether specific features work or not.

Just a general note to all the contributors working on openSUSE 11.1 — if you are working on items that you think should be highlighted in release announcements for the betas and RCs, please drop me an email or leave a comment here.

This could be any of the following:

  • Major feature change that users will find interesting (or alarming…)
  • Major or minor change that you’d like to see tested extensively
  • New hardware support (such as the EVDO/UMTS cards with NetworkManager in 11.0)
  • New application
  • Anything else extensively different from 11.0 that bears mentioning
