Just a quick reminder - when you install openSUSE 11.1, please be sure to run Smolt to send the hardware profile to the Smolt project. I’m looking over on the Smolt Web site and the participation seems to be a bit less than 30% in terms of people who’ve run Smolt vs. people who seem to have installed openSUSE and run an update.

Every bit helps, and the more hardware data the Smolt project has, the better.

You should be prompted to run Smolt the first time you run the updater. If not, you can run Smolt from the command line or run it using “smoltGui” (see the Smolt site for more info).

Ok, I did a 1 click install of Smolt for openSUSE 11.0 from the below website:
http://software.opensuse.org/search?baseproject=ALL&p=1&q=smolt

Then issued the following console command: smoltSendProfile

and it was all done in a less than a minute or two!

Done deed!
Cheers

Easy as pie. Had to install smolt first though, it didn’t seem to be part of the generic installation.

It should install during the first update, I believe.

Ok, so I’ve uploaded my hardware profile (on all machines I have installed on). Am I supposed to edit something on the smolts website to indicate which pieces of hardware work? I’m happy to supply that information too.

Yes, I wondered that, couldn’t see any option in the smolt application, maybe a question to Mike McGrath, who I think is the main man, is required?

Same here. I uploaded the profile and wondered wether I should gigve further information or not.

It would be good if one would be able to give all the necessary information before sending the data to the smoltsever.

Besides that, smolt is e very good idea. I hope it helps Linux.

After running smoltSendProfile look at the resulting message in the console - you can copy/paste the URL into your browser and then paste the admin password to update.the page

Very nice - glad to help OpenSUSE

I get an error message saying: There was an error while sending your data to the server.

If you want to get the password so that you can update the status of your hardware use:
smoltSendProfile

the gui has a known bug and it doesnt provide the password or the public uuid

it works if you answer yes immediately after the question asked ;)
