It tastes somehow with bitterness to see a project like KDE grow for about 10 years to be what it is today (KDE 3.5.9), and then getting banned from the distribution (Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex) by another KDE (KDE 4.1), which is no equivalent for the long term KDE user at all. Indeed, users who have become used to a stable tool like kfm, which shines like a jewel in the treause box of KDE, won't just take "dolphin" and then try to get happy with it. Rather, they would look for a distribution which values their users needs a little bit more over their own direction feeds.

I concur. It sucks to have to manually go through and weed out all the KDE 4 stuff. Why can't we have a KDE 3.5.x-only pattern?

I agree. Tried using Dolphin as file manager under 4.1 this past weekend to get used to the interface. Crashes were very frequent enough that I gave up and went back to KDE 3.5 using Konqueror.

I don't mind the KDE4 and KDE3 apps side by side. For example, Kate for KDE4 works under KDE3 perfectly OK.

I would like to move to KDE4 once Konqueror is stable enough for intensive use. If that is 11.1, all to the good. Otherwise I will carry on with KDE3 for real work and use KDE4 for fun.

Those KDE4 apps are installed because they are better than the KDE3 versions (like the games) or their KDE3 versions are not developed/maintained anymore (like openSUSE online updater or KTorrent).

Yes! And why do KDE3 users have to use KDE4 applications? They look out of place!

I just wished that the KDE3 patterns would NOT install KDE4 apps as well. It's a real pain to install KDE 3 and then remove the stupid KDE 4 apps (ie card games etc)

Hi Zonker,

I hope I could build openSUSE 11.1 KDE 3.5.x LiveCD as my project. In 11.0, Francis has built the CD after a month or two and for 11.1, hope it would available in a short time after 11.1 officially launched.
